1. The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) is the nodal agency in the Central Government for planning, promotion, co-ordination and overseeing the implementation of India's environmental and forestry policies and programmes. The MOEF issues Environmental Clearances for projects categorized A in the schedule to the EIA Notification, 2006. To see the Schedule, click here
2. The State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority [SEIAA] is a Central Government Authority that is constituted by the State Government of every state but acts on behalf and reports to the MoEF. It is entrusted with the responsibility of awarding Environmental Clearances for projects categorised B in the schedule to the EIA Notification, 2006.

3. The State Pollution Control Board is entrusted the task of conducting the Public Consultation and submitting the Public Consultation Report to the MoEF/SEIAA for projects in its jurisdiction.
