Climate Change

Climate Change negatively impacts pregnant women, necessitating stronger healthcare infrastructure to safeguard them from heat-related illnesses. Further, establishing gender-sensitive emergency shelters & hotlines in affected areas is crucial.

A recent Science Magazine study suggests that the warming avoided by planting CO2-absorbing forests could be around 15 to 30% less than previously estimated due to feedbacks such as dark trees reflecting less sunlight.

Butterflies & moths, sensitive to environmental changes, are vital bioindicators of ecosystem health. Their declining populations have serious implications, impacting animals like bats, birds, & insects reliant on them as a food source.

A recent study by UWA research analysed global data from 163 health studies revealing a correlation between climate-induced extremes & preterm births, and exacerbated  respiratory diseases, mortality, and morbidity in all children. #ActOnClimate

Described as the most destructive migratory pests, locusts travel in swarms covering 50 to over 100 km daily. Each swarm, having tens of millions of locusts, can consume the daily food supply of thousands of people, posing a threat to the global food chain.

Migratory species play a crucial role in maintaining the world's ecosystems by pollinating plants, dispersing seeds & controlling pests. Their extinction could lead to imbalances in the ecosystem triggering #FoodInsecurity & #BiodiversityLoss.
